A new “slimmed-down” version of the stop-smoking support service Quitline has been launched to capture the rise in smartphone traffic.

Bruce Bassett, Quitline’s director of strategy and communications, said the national service had seen a “huge rise” in mobile traffic over the last year, “which reflects the fact that people are increasingly wanting to access our services from their smartphones.”

In response, Quitline has developed a honed-down website focussing on its most popular and effective services, including the online quit coach, so it can be easily accessed by a wide variety of smartphone brands including iPhones, Android, and BlackBerry phones.

“We believe that our mobile website will help more people quit smoking as they will have 24 hour support with them wherever they go,” said Bassett.

Mobile devices are automatically directed to the new site when www.quit.org.nz is typed into the smartphone’s browser.
