A group of three Whanganui nurse managers are celebrating losing 71 kilograms between them.

Sarah Claughton, a duty nurse manager at Whanganui District Health Board, started the trio off by joining Weight Watchers more than a year ago wanting to reach a healthy weight.

Her steady weight loss prompted clinical nurse manager Wendy Stanbrook-Mason to join the DHB’s work-based Weight Watcher’s programme and along with duty nurse manager Rosie Rosewarne joined local group The Biggest Loser.

“The Biggest Loser programme uses a boot camp approach with intense exercise, nutritional advice, support and an open weekly weigh-in where everyone in the group hears how much weight their fellow members have lost or gained,” Stanbrook-Mason said.

“Belonging to a group of like-minded women was the answer for Rosie and I. We had to be over 40 and have more than 10kgs to lose to be able to join.”

Green Prescription patient support co-coordinator Lyneve Ryland also joined the group and lost 26 kgs over six months.

Ryland works with dietician Pushpa Wati who has applauded the four for setting a good example to their colleagues and the wider community.
